Hi, I am a new member and I collect and sell antique jewellery. I have a few pieces of antique Scottish Agates jewellery with missing agates and wondered if anyone had an idea about how to replace them? Thanks, Rachel

Welcome from Missouri. I am sure someone will have some ideas about the agates. You might post some pics of what you have.

I repaired a Scottish agate bracelet for a friend last year. I made a new agate dangling thing since the old one was missing the stones but I used Mexican and Madagascar agate. Several of the sterling links between the stones were broken so I made new ones. If you are missing the agates in a bracelet it might be hard to find matching agate material and if the agates have four holes in them to link them it is a pretty complex job. Perhaps if you posted photos of the whole pieces of jewelry with the missing parts it would be easier to advise on repairs. I know these antique Scottish agate jewelry pieces bring good money and you will probably have to pay a good amount to get the custom work done.
Oh, and welcome from NY state!

I repaired a Scottish brooch some time back, It was missing a bell shaped agate. The brooch had two bells I was tasked with replacing a missing bell. I had to shape the surface of one of my grinding wheels to even be able to cut a bell, but the biggest problem was finding an Agate that matched, I cut several rejects but eventually I used a nice black and white Botswana Agate.
