Going to break the trip pics up since there are so many of them. So these are from the first day of Jax's and my trip to Reno.

I live for going on outings like you are, James. Haven't gotten out much lately because of work but you're inspiring me to mend my ways and get out more. Love the scenery on your trips.

I've never rockhounded. I've been to Reno many times to play bridge. One day, my wife and I took a trip to Fallon. There was a big rock shop, since closed. They had a lot of Wonderstone. Altamontbead is located there now. One year we spent a couple days at a rock show at the Reno Fairgrounds.

Reno has a couple of places to collect. There is a popular copper mine just North of Reno, about 16 miles with some nice stuff. I think the town is called Cold Spring, or something like that. I have found some common opal up in the mountain behind the high school off of Virginia Street. Did not find a lot, but it is supposed to be abundant up there somewhere. Virginia City has various things including plant fossils and amethyst. Have found some nice galena specimens up on Mt. Rose.
Collecting is more abundant down by Fernley area (gasline road and racetrack road) and all around Fallon.
