Hello. I’m new to rock tumbling. I am trying to use rock tumblers for tumbling my polymer clay beads. After they are baked they need to be sanded and polished to look shiny and lovely. I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis so using my hands is usually painful so after some research I decided to use the same process as rock tumbling. I bought a Mjr tumbler 15 lb. I plugged it in without the barrel today and the motor started smocking and smelling very horrible after about 5 seconds so I unplugged it. I’m going to do some research on these boards to find out what’s going on with it.

Welcome to the forum from South Dakota! Sorry you're having issues already with the tumbler. If you don't get many responses in your "intro" thread, you may consider reposting your question in the tumbling thread. Not everyone checks this section. If you didn't have a load on that motor, and it started smoking, I'd be contacting the manufacturer immediately. I am concerned for you...if you have rheumatoid arthritis, a 15 pound barrel may cause some problems with regards to emptying it...
