My husband met a collector to buy a couple of pieces of uranium glass and the seller had this cullett. I suppose I should have known such a thing existed, but I didn't. Husband bought it and said I could make him something out of it.
I've done some obsidian stuff, but haven't worked any glass, and certainly not uranium glass. Have any of you done anything with this stuff? How does it go? Anything I should know?
I was going to use my asbestos gear for safety. Will that do? What would you do with it design-wise?

Does this glow bright neon green under UV light? If not, it may not be true uranium glass, which I kind of suspect as the uranium glass was made by rolling uranium salts in molten glass. I never heard of it being added to the melt.
Some glasses that are yellow or green, such as glass made with cerium oxide, are also referred to as uranium glass even though they do not contain uranium. The UV test is the best indicator for uranium.

It glows pretty bright. It's brightest parts are aliens-on-kids-cartoons bright. The photo here is just in my lap with a flash on the drive home so there's not much glow. But the guy selling had blacklights all over his space, so I got a good look under several different UV lights. It's definitely reactive. (But has folds of white glass that are not - they look pretty cool under blacklight too though.)

Is the glow a bright green or bluish? And does the glow continue at all after the light source is removed?

I've knapped out a few arrowheads from this type of glass. Pretty cool to light them up with a black light and get the bright green glow.
