Here are some pics of some Brazilian Agates I've been tumbling for a while now. Hope you like them. Sorry for the larger images. I couldnt get them to resize. First two pics: rough & final stages Agates in the rough. Bottom two: Same, but polished rocks from above. Same as left agate in the rough. Rock on right: Same as right agate in the rough. (Left one, has no rough pic.) Forgot to take a rough shot. They didn't come out flawless, but overall I"m quite happy with the results. Thank you for looking. Condor

Those are very cool Condor, that water level agate looks really neat. (3rd up from bottom) The last one looks like it's full of eyes too. Those are some really big agates you did, good job!

Ok, define "a while". Has the matrix/skin been coming of faster or slower?

The first oval rock is 6" x 12 1/2" round, and weighs about five pounds. The last one is 4 1/2" x 9 1/2" round, and weighs about two pounds. The water level rock is close in size and weight to the second oval one, but of course a different shape. The other two are about 3" to 4" x 7" round. By "a while", I mean that I left them in the 60/90 for about four weeks, followed by two weeks in 120/220, then one week in 400F. I then used CO for one week, but they remained dull so I added AO for another week, and that's how they came out. I also had them in three different rotary tumblers with the biggy by itself and a bunch of do-overs. The water level rock and the dimpled rock were together, while the final oval rock and the smaller darkish one shared another tumbler with various other do-overs and pet-woods.

Wow, you weren't kidding when you said "very large tumbled agates"!!! You must have yerself one biggie tumbler to handle that size of rock. Lucky you!

Seriously, you should have said "tumbled boulders". Those must have made a lot of noise bumping around in the barrel, unless you have a 60lb. tumbler or use a cement mixer! They look amazing. I like the third from the bottom one alot, though they all look awesome.

Size mattters...
I love the stones that don't take a magnifying glass to enjoy...and if someone is having trouble understanding you...whack 'em in the side of the head with it.

Wow, 5 lb tumbled boulders -- that's amazing! Biggest thing I've ever finished tumbling is 1/2 lb, and I thought that was pushing it. I'm surprised you got them through 60/90 in just 4 weeks, as Brazilian agate is really tough stuff!
What size tumbler you using there?

Here's a picture of the tumbler that did Biggy. It's a forty pound type. The others were done in Thumler's 12lb tumblers. Deb, the matrix wasn't too bad at coming off. I would say it was not much different than most rocks. Condor

Dang Condor! Those are humongous! Really neat though. Good stones to just hold and get the feel of....or...you could get some really big bell caps and chain and make a pendant for one of those rap stars that like to wear the big gold clocks around their necks or whatever *L*.....mel
