It looks like Chert to me... Yup, it’s definitely chert. I’m just wondering if the lighter colored material is shell or something, because it’s not chert. I’ll probably end up cutting it in half someday.

Looks to me like limestone that didn't get converted to chert for some reason. I find some chert nodules/lenses embedded in limestone here in northwest Missouri. I have wondered how it is that just a small nodule or lense gets converted to chert and the surrounding limestone doesn't. Once in a while I find what I would call chert with fossils embedded in it or sometimes with impressions of fossils. Will try to post a few pictures later.

The last photo of that series totally reminds me of a rock I recently found.

Yea pretty much the same thing I was thinking. I would find more of a white version of this in Lake Michigan and it there would often be mini fossils embedded like crinoids.
I use to have more, but apparently I got rid of them when I moved. This is the closest I could find in my stash. Others had a look closer to yours....

I think I have seen rocks like that and the ones found by velodromed on the beaches where you find lightning stones in Lake Michigan.

Thanks everyone! At this point I’m pretty convinced I haven’t found anything special so…I’m gonna hit it with a hammer. I want to see what it looks like inside sooner than later, and don’t want to try the saw again quite yet.
