I am so happy I found this forum I am new to rock tumbling and was/am getting a bit frustrated with my progress. Then I had a light bulb moment and decided and to see if I could find a forum for rock tumbling....and here I am. I hope to learn a lot and hopefully not be so frustrated anymore. LOL A bit about myself... I have a woodcrafts shop, which I love and have worked at for years. I have had many hobbies over my lifetime and rock tumbling has always been something I have wanted to try. My brother had a rock tumbler as a child and I was always fascinated by it. A few years ago I bought a tumbler, but was always so busy I never started the hobby. I finally got to start and I was so excited and the tumbler I had bought turned out to be fodder for the trash heap. BUT... I did not give up. I bought not 1, but 2 tumblers that work great. So I am happy with that. I have only completed 2 bunches of rocks so far. I have to say that I have been disappointed in the results. Which is what put me on the course to find a forum that I hoped I would be able to learn from. Just reading through a few posts I have already learned a great deal. So I have high hopes for my rock tumbling journey now My rocks, even the hard ones that come with the tumbler just won't shine. But I feel I will learn what I need to know to make them shine here! So, off I go to browse the forum once again and see what I can learn.

Hi and welcome from Missouri. I still consider myself new to the hobby, which I started last July. I learned a lot from this forum and also from rocktumbler.com/questions.shtml . I got the Book "Modern Rock Tumbling" from that site. Another source I found very helpful is "Michigan Rocks" on YouTube. In the end all I really need to do was be a little more picky on sending rocks on to step 2 and also add ad a step 5 with Aluminum Oxide Polish. I now have three batches done that I am going to fill class containers with. I still have 20 pounds of rocks to tumble with my small tumblers.

Welcome from Northern Arizona! You've already discovered the archives and the wealth of knowledge there. If you can't find an answer to a question, just post it on the tumbling board and you'll get gobs of help.

Welcome from Central California. As others have said there are lots of great resources here that you should check out. That being said, the number one issue I see here for not getting a good shine is using a substandard polish, or a polish that's really a pre-polish.

A bit about myself... I have a woodcrafts shop, which I love and have worked at for years. Welcome to the forum! Your username caught my eye because over the years I've dabbled in work working and it has been something I would really enjoy taking to the next level. Sanding and finishing has always been my weakness so it's kind of ironic that I gravitated to polishing rocks lol. Currently I'm in the middle of a whole house renovation which will eventually include building a kitchen island and two nooks - one a breakfast nook and the other a fireplace bench thingy. Guess we'll see how it goes haha
