Is there a fresh cut on it?

Is there a fresh cut on it? Nope. Don’t want to cut it until I can identify what it is. It was stored in a bucket buried with a bunch of other nice stuff. Could be garbage, but have a feeling it might be something nice or rare.

realrockhound My question is, the lighting is it correct? The top looks brownish, the bottom dark greenish with not a lot of translucence. most mtorolite I have seen has more translucence. If you draw a vertical line down from the tip of your thumb and a horizontal line from where the two curved conchoidal fractures meeet on the right. Where these two lines meet there is a spot that looks like green tree agate. The indian Green moss agate and green tree agate are part of the same material just different coloring within the same deposit. I am thinking this is some of that agate just with a slightly different mix of color. I am 100% sure maybe

I’ll nut up and take a slab off the back. I could be Indian green moss agate, but from everything I have of that material this doesn’t seem the same (not saying it isn’t, just still have my suspicions from examining with a light, etc..) we’ll get an answer.

Maybe Mtorolite? Through my searches. I’m seeing similar Mtorolite is chrome chalcedony. Use a Chelsea filter to see if there's any red hue in light transmitted through the stone. That would confirm the presence of chroium.

Hard to tell but it does look like there is a white spot w/ green in it I'd just cut a slab off I’ll do it that tomorrow see what it turns out. On the thinner edges I was able to shine a light through. It has transparency. It has a name written on it with sharpie that has faded out. It starts with a “C” but fades off and I can’t quite make out the writing.

I think you said the magic words starts with a "c" . Green Chalcedony will sometimes for lack of a better description areas of white areas.

How can green agates be crappy😂 If it’s a dime a dozen, or has no special qualities to it, I don’t even want to look at it. As I’ve been labeled by jasoninsd “a bonafide rock snob” 😂

Hit the writing with your UV, a strong light from multiple angles and a weak light same. Try with both room lights on and off
