What do you call the part that connects a diamond grinding disc to the end of a motor shaft? This is driving me up the wall and I need to make a bigger grinder for my projects.

I was gonna say the “taint” until I saw the rest of this post.
Are you talking about the lock nut?

No, I bought a 7 inch grinding disc and it does not fit on my giant angle grinder because I took the nut and other part off to allow the 4 inch one that had its own threads to go on. Now, a few years later, I have no idea where the old parts are and the grinder is a true antique. So, I figure I will mount the disc on a motor, but I can not figure out what to call the part that the disc goes onto that mounts on the shaft. I may just have to buy a brand new angle grinder and go from there, but don't really want to.

I don’t think you’ll need to buy new.

I can't google something that I can't name. I couldn't think of that part's name either. It isn't the part I meant, but it is also helpful.

If it isn’t the spindle, then I’m completely at a loss. Only thing to do is try to identify it through a parts catalogue. Best of luck

I've heard them referred to as "adaptors" before. Doesn't seem like that is what a supplier will call it though.

Dillon figured it out.
Spindle adapter.
I think I am going to go with a different route after looking at them though.

If threaded discs fit your machine the standard 5/8" coarse thread will as well. When I had a similar thing happen with my old genuine metal 7" grinder the nut from a 4 1/2" grinder that died fit just like the original.

That was a good idea. I borrowed the parts off of the smaller one I have and put the big one together. I did two preforms in less than the time it took to out the tool together. It is really windy here right now so the dust blew away at a rapid pace. Didn't even smell it except for the one time the wind died for a few seconds. On the second sphere, I thought I was half way done and it turned out that I was completely done. I should have taken a video.
