Greetings! I am Quicksilver(Del). I reside in southeastern Massachusetts. I took the plunge yesterday and purchased a Harbor Freight rotary tumbler. I do not as yet have media, they were out at the store. I would like to use ceramic media. My machine has two 3 lb. containers. My game plan is to polish smooth rounded stones I collect on river and ocean beaches. I aspire to transfrom the stones I collect into small pieces of natural beauty!

Welcome Del! Media might not be necessary in tumbling. Tiny rocks might serve the same purpose as fillers.

Lot's of people here use The Rock Shed. They have good prices, great service and good polish. They'll have everything you'll need. You might want to post this stuff in the tumbling section of the forum. You'll better responses. Oh, and welcome to the forum from Central California.

If the rocks are well rounded to start, then use 220 grit to start with. No need to use coarse. Then proceed to finer grits as normal and polish.
