First of all, I'm 74 years old and getting a little creaky. I started rockhounding and tumbling around the first of the year and I am now four tumblers later. Sure does go fast! I have a Lortone 33B, two HFs and a Raytech Vibe5. Looking for a rotary that would allow me to tumble slightly bigger rocks. Rocks mostly found on our local beaches.

Welcome from Washington. If you can your hands on the Lortone QT-12 it would be good for larger rocks. *warning* they are expensive these days. Tumbling is a nice hobby at any age.

I have a Lortone 33B, two HFs and a Raytech Vibe5. Looking for a rotary that would allow me to tumble slightly bigger rocks. Rocks mostly found on our local beaches. Hello mirkee! Welcome to the rabbit hole of rock tumbling. Like you I've added to my equipment list quite quickly and looked for a bigger tumbler. My old tired QT12 was getting overused so I did some searching and bought a couple Extreme Rebel 17's to do the heavy lifting. I've only had them for 5+ months but I've been impressed so far. (despite being made in China) They're larger than the Lortone QT12 and about $100 cheaper and the availability seems to be good. Time will tell but so far, so good. I did break a belt on one the other day but I think that was due to my haste while aligning the drive pulleys. (99.787% of the time it's the nut behind the wheel. Right?) My old QT12 started out as a rock tumbler 35 years ago and got relegated to tumbling brass for reloading shortly after that. Now it's doing 2nd stage work before I move things to the vibes. It's very old and still on it's original motor like you and me. But it's working well despite it's age. It's hard to go wrong with a Lortone IMO. (if you can find them) Looking forward to seeing some of your results! Thanks for joining up...
