What is the best adhesive for bonding the tumbled rocks to metal jewelry that will maintain a hold indefinitely? I understand that placing the adhesive in the right places is also important, but I'm more concerned about the best compound or the best brand for doing the job. Thank you in advance.

Using adhesive to place a stone on jewelery, it is tricky. The point of jewelery is to maintain a memory for a lifetime. Reality wise, things happen. I am sure you know that. Epoxy is good if it is "pure" 2 ton, or two hour epoxy is as "pure" as most people can easily get. Pool epoxy is "pure". You can get it at Home Depot, Lowe's, Ace. It comes most times in one gallon applications. Pool epoxy is the most pure and non specialized epoxy most people can get. T-88 epoxy is a special order and hard to use. EC-3000, silicone window caulk RTV. Works great if the area is good size. It will not work for point to point adhesion. CA is ok if there is no flesibility in the setting. It should be treated with sodium bicarbonate before applying. Tumbled stones are smooth. That is the purpose for tumbling. This presents problems with adhesives. Most adhesives use both chemical and mechanical gripping. The specific word is lost to me at this moment. A large holding area area lends itself to silicone, epoxy adhesion. A deep setting lends itself to this also. In the adhesion process, oxidation is an issue down the road. Most stones I have had to reset that were glued, the oxidation and stearates from the skin breaks the bond. Other chemicals, soaps, suntan lotions, oils harden flexible adhesives. What are you trying to set?

roughing up the surface will help as long as you clean it before trying to bond the stone
