This weekend, I picked up the Thumbler from a friend of mine and it's humming away filled with petrified rock and Turretilla. (Both from the Rock Shed) Hope this is a good combination to fill it with. The tumbler is much larger than I expected and it was tough to fill with just one type of stone.
I'm really thrilled with the tumbler so far! Surprisingly, it's not that loud at all. I'm in my office, in the basement of our house and I can't even hear it! (only a thin luan door between me and where I do my tumbling. If anything, it's a soft "white" noise like a fan purring in the background. I think I'll leave the lid off to monitor during the day, but even then, it doesn't seem that noisy. (Unless I'm going deaf in my *cough* old age!
Do the vib tumblers move much? I have it on the concrete floor at the moment...
Just an update.... Take care all!

Helen, Mine has never moved but I've heard others say theirs have If filled properly, it shouldn't be too noisey or (this is important) too quiet. If there's too much water in the mix, it will be very quiet and that's not good. You use less water and less grit in the polish stage and, yeah, it gets pretty loud. Guess I'm just used to it, it's behind a closed door. I get scared if I CAN"T hear it, means it's gotten too dry and not moving at all. Good Luck, keep us posted! cookie

Oh thank you for your suggestions!
I found a "how-to" on the Rock-Shed site and it said to add water only till the grit stuck to the stone. I did that...but turned it off for a moment to move the tumbler and I noticed water on the bottom. Since the grit didn't slide off the stone, I thought it would be ok.
Going to let it run tonight even if it's a bit wet to be safe. Will check it just before I go to bed.
Is it a bad idea to let it go without being checked for 6-8 hours? Or should I turn it off and start it again when I wake up?
