I checked mine, the Chicago Electric was 56 rpm and the Lortone was 40. I know there's another thread in here where faster rolling was discussed but who knows how far back it is or what the title of the thread was. It was a good thread that discussed the amount of water to use in the barrel too. I'll see if I can find it. [glow=red,2,300] ~ Cher ~[/glow] pages.prodigy.net/bestsmileys1/signs/RockOn.gif [/img]

56 rpm... let's see, that's 23,040 revolutions per day more than your 33B. There's a difference of 11,520 rpd between my two lortones. Don't know how much it matters, but if you add those #'s up over a 4-6 week tumbler run, there's quite a difference! Was this the thread you are talking about? Jimmy

The thread I was talking about is back on page 6 and titled 120/200 2nd Stage Question. It was more about the problem I was having with grit stuck in the bottom of the barrel, but there was some discussion about how much water to use. [glow=red,2,300]Cher[/glow]

Remember-a 4" barrell will rotate about 60 RPM at the most and a 8" barrell will rotate about 30 RPM- The larger the barrell the slower the RPM-- Concerning tumbling 1st stage at a higher speed--If the engineers at Lortone or Thumblers thought it was best to increase the speeds-they would have designed their equipment for that speed--Today's tumblers are the best engineered you can buy--Everyone looks for "short cuts"--This hobby requires patience...

i have 2 3A's and a 33B. both the 3A's are used and off ebay, and 33B is about 2 months old. The 3A's are slightly off speed, and the 33B is quite a bit slower. does any of you know why this might be? is slower bad? should i try to speed up the 33B and if so how?

Some info I have at hand regarding speeding barrels:
4,5" diameter should do 60 revs 6" 54 revs 8" 48 revs 10" 42 revs
I have just ordered 2 x 12 pound Lortone barrels and asked the speed question myself. My old supplier passed away 2 weeks ago and I only just heard about it yesterday. They gave me an address of a new supplier , who I found out, is the main importer of grits into NZ from USA. A very helpful person indeed in the town of Rotorua.
Good luck
Jack

Some things improve with SLOW speed: 1. A fine cuban cigar and glass of kentucky striaght boubon whiskey. 2. A beautiful sunset on Florida's west coast. 3. Sex...............

if you get a more powerful motor you could load your barrels without bothering for it's weight and increase your speed at the same time.

Vibratory is much faster than 60 per minute.

JK someone i think it was ron said how to speed up a barrel what ya had to do was make the drive roller that the barrel sits on bigger and it would speed it up i played around with the idea ,, i used a heater hose for a car and slit it and wraped it around the bar it kepted slinding to one side and rubbing but it worked it did speed up the barrel,, then i tried duct tapeing a drive bar i think that worked alittle better on a lortone QT-12 but not a model-b but the tape will sooner or later start coming apart and it makes a mess so i took all the tape off and went back to normal hahaha,, it does work but i havent found a way to doit that will work for along time so if you do yell it out i wanted to have a way to speed up my three model-b-s i use for rough grind without buying the 3000 rpm motors
