That is why I use hardened copper wire and grit. It is way slower but the trade off in time vs., cost. I consider it worth it.

There is a thread on the forum where I go into detail. Essentially it is wire that has been work hardened, chucked into a bit and turned into the stone. The grit is made into a well and the drill/copper wire, is lowered into the hole, and recharged with grit. The wire wears away with the drilling but the new wire keeps the hole diameter. It takes learning the touch but I think it is worth it.
