Got an old tumbler and a lot of old rocks from my uncle but no polishers. Undecided to which prepolisher to buy. You all mention tripoli and 1000grit prepolishers, I also saw some named sisa very cheap, which one is the best to have. Thank you for your time. Al

As I understand it, SISA, Tripoli, ect are all about 1000 grit. some work better on dif. stones than others, but it's just trial and error. I use a vibe, so my coarse is 120/220 and second stage is 600, some people with rotaries use that for pre polish. The 1000 grit is an extra step just to punch it up. I recently ordered 5lbs of tripoli (it was inexspensive as well) just to insure I ran 4 phases instead of 3. What kind of tumbler are you running?

Thanks Cookie, the tumbler is an old rotary tumbler from skil-craft corp.with only one drum. Works but haven't done anything with it yet. I see you got tripoli, what is your experience with it? I'm in a budget and only want to get one bag of pre that works well with all rocks.

i think you'll be happy with the 1000 ao. i just ran the sisa and some of my rocks came out looking as if they'd been in polish and some i'm gonna have to take back now. so it must be the type of stones.

As soon as this batch comes out of 600 (I'm about to check it but probably tommorrow) I'm going to use the tripoli for the first time . Just got it today, I'm anxious to try it, but I won't (I hope) rush the 600. The Tripoli was only $10.00 for 5 lbs and I needed an extra step, so we'll see what happens.
