Just spoke to Jim Bryan at Lortone. They received the arbor and all parts on the shaft and took a look at it.
The bearings were shot as well as the arbor. I was very concerned I put something together incorrectly or had the belt on too tight. He doesn't think so....and doesn't think any of us did anything wrong. It was just a fluke on the bearing nearest the saw. (Hubby Rob thinks the bearing was cut at a very slight angle) Jim said that it appears the bearing stopped moving and seized on the arbor causing all the damage. In turn, it began to damage the other bearing as well.
Good good folks....
I should be up and running again on Tuesday or Wednesday if all goes well. I'm a Lortone fan for life. They really do seem to care that we're happy and satisfied with their products. In my opinion, 99% of what makes me go back to a company is their service...and their service has been excellent.

Sometimes you just get a "lemon" and most folks are great about making good on their product - except the automobile dealers! Glad you'll be back up and running soon. My hand is almost back to normal and I did some grinding last night. I don't know exactly how it happened but I somehow sliced my middle finger on my left hand on the grinding wheel. Now, my right hand is back to normal, and the left might be out of commission for a couple of days. It's not a bad cut at all, no blood or anything - but sure is sore. Kinda like a paper cut. llana

Llana, Liquid bandaid works great for owies! You should try it sometime...it seals up the cut and is water-proof, so you don't have to worry about getting grit or dirt in the wound...giving it a chance to heal! (And of course, you're back to cutting rock again!) Sorry that you have an owie!

The liklihood of finding any liquid bandaid in Podunk, Texas is slim to none! I would probably have to drive 50 miles round trip to the "city" (nearest town with WalMart and several pharmacies) to get some and I HATE going to the city! Think I'd rather have my finger fall off! ;D I do have to make a trip over that way soon for some stuff, but I am putting it off as long as possible and the cut will probably be healed by then. llana

Lortone Update!
They've gone and done it again! Not sure what happened, but Jim just called and said I should have the arbor TOMORROW! Now that's service that I'm grateful for!
*CHEERS*
You all can guess who's Vibrating Lap I'm getting.... ;D Maybe not in the next month or so, but certainly as soon as I can!

Definate yay! I use exclusively Loretone. I wish they made a faceter. The Raytech-Shaw I have is no longer in production with no plans to produce any. I prefer it to hard stop faceters as I feel I have more control over the cuts. I dusted my knuckle on my 100 grit diamond wheel. Wow! Fast, annoying, and just ached. Blood Sweat and Tears.

"Dust a Knuckle"....great saying... should have been a song title.....(hand me the liquid band aid, dear...)
glad Lortone is doing the good deed, Em, and glad to hear it wasn't anyones real fault that you got a lemon, and glad they are going the good customer thing....
onwards and upwards, KD
