What is the hardest (difficult) and easiest stone you all have tumbled? How about the most expensive or cheapest?

The cheapest are the ones I got in trade for the ones I found in the river! The least I have paid was $3.00 a lb. (on ebay, plus shipping) for blue lace agate. It was an unbroken rock, so there was no way of telling, but the center was very fractured. I also paid that amount for some red Jasper that turned out great. The hardest has been green adventurine. Can't get that to polish to save my life. Also sodalite, but I've had some come out pretty good. good luck,

toad the leopard skin jasper just distressed me. it was looking so good all the way up to polish then in polish it just turned to pot. it was going backwards in polish becoming unlevel and rough. it has a soft and a hard material best i could determine after asking questions and searching the net. the soft was wearing away in polish and certainly not taking a shine. the hard would shine but the rocks just looked terrible by the time i gave up on them. maybe they can be cabbed and polished but they sure didn't fair well in the tumbler. easiest stone - tigers eye - shapes and polishes well with no fractures cheapest rock - driveway gravel then the blue agate. the most expensive - $10/lb

Cheapest: Agates I've collected myself. Have bought some for $2.00 a pound. Don't have enough tumbling experience to say on what's the best and worst for tumbling.

Rocky, what you are describing is the bane of my existence, it happens all the time with pickup rock that has cool looking inclusions. I feel your pain.
the cheapest -- backyard rock. most frustrating to tumble? obviously, hands down, the corundum family.
