Does anyone know if a Lortone replacement motor for a 33-B will fit in a CE lookalike tumbler? Without mods, that is.
Thanks, Eric

eric i can't answer this but i'm pretty sure someone was talking recently about the motors and belts on the ce. maybe you could try searching - it may have been pdwight but i'm not positive - something about the bearings - try searching bearings and looking back at pdwights posts?

i found this post from dwight
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I got a Chicago Tumbler a little over a year ago and wore out the piece of crap motor in 3 months. Now I was able to order a motor from the rockshed for the lortone wihich was a much higher quality for around 15 vbucks and replace it..it works like a champ now and is very quiet and smooth. The factory motor has cheesy plastic bushings that distort quickly....the lortone motor had nice bronze oil impregnated bearnings that should last a long time.

Thanks, folks. There are a couple of Lortone motors on Ebay if anybody else is interested.

Yes , I did that with mine. the motoe that ships with the CE tumbler is crappy. I replaced mine with a Loretone and onoly had to use two new screws and a shaft pully. I got all this stuff from "The Rock Shed" Smooth as glass now.

Thanks for the info everybody. It is true that this subject was discussed on an earlier thread, as a matter of fact, it was one that I started. I have a dual drum rotary tumbler from C/E. It's been operating now about 3 weeks, but the drive belt broke after the first week. I replaced it with an O-ring from a local shop. Haven't had any motor problems YET, but thanks to you guys, I know what to do when it happens. I probably ought to go ahead and order a Lortone motor and have it on standby when the C/E motor eventually breaks down. I would absolutely hate for it to happen while I'm in the middle of a tumbling cycle, but I have no control over that.
