I picked-up a WorkForce saw at Home Depot on Friday, and spent a few hours playing with it yesterday. What a blast! I messed-around with several materials, but spent most of my time playing with Gem Silica from my mine. Overall, I'm happy with the results and I think they'll look nice after I vibe-tumble them. First, here's couple that I made from one of the rocks which I had posted here to be identified. I still don't know what they are, but they look nice: Here's a nice piece of the Mt. Higgins Rhodonite that I bought last week. I was surprised how nice it came out: This is a piece of the Amethyst Quartzite from one of the local mountains. It's GORGEOUS, but I just wasn't able to get the camera to capture it: And the rest are shots of the Gem Silica. You can get a general idea of what it looks like, but my old digital camera just can't do it justice: Thanks for looking!

Ahuh ... you're hooked now. Isn't it fun, especially on a really hot day, way better than beer!

You're just having way too much fun with that! You have some nice slices there.

Thanks for all of the encouragement! It really is a lot of fun, and it's actually much easier than I thought it would be. I'm using rough that doesn't bother me in the least when it goes wrong, but I've only had a few go bad, and that was due to material failure.
I've been very surprised at how nice my rough has turned-out after cutting. The depth of the gem silica is amazing. The rhodonite that I recently picked-up dirt cheap is beautifully figured. The mystery rocks which I hounded and have been sitting in my yard are turning-out to be really nice so far. I'm going to wait until I get more experience under my belt before I go tearing into my really good stuff though.
I didn't have a lot of spare time today, but I did manage to squeak-out eight more pre-shapes and a couple of small slabs. It's going to take a LOT more to fill-up my vibe tumbler!

That gem silica is really nice stuff. I'm jealous that you find it close by. I recently bought a WF saw too. I got to try it out a couple of weekends ago but didn't do as well as you with the saw. Need more practice. Still have to get a vibe tumbler though. It is fun.

Well, I'm definately going to buy a cabbing machine as soon as I can. Check this out: stores.ebay.com/STUPENDOUS-GEMSType "gem silica" in the store search...

Those cuts look good. Looks like you're going to have some serious cabs with those. Be sure to post them.

Michael, I predict you will be cutting every chance you get. You never know what you will get, and will be surprised from time to time! Here are the cuts from the G.S rock you gave me: The blue doesn't go all the way thru, but there will be nice areas to cab. Thanks for the nice stone!
