Thanks to krazydiamond my wife has decided we need a trim/slab saw. (I mean this in a good way, cus I have wanted a trim saw since we started tumbling.)
We did a little rock swap and she sent us some "left over" pieces from when she did some sawing. My wife has decided we are missing a lot not having a saw.
So I am in the market for a new or used trim saw.
Has anyone ever used or seen the Hi-Tech 6in. Trim Saw?
I know this much, we need something with a vice. We need something that can stand up to a lot of Agate.
Now for the kicker. I have been giving a limit so I can't get the 6" Covington combination unit. Darn it!!!!

i think hermatite has the rock rascal. i have the mk170 7" but it does not make a good trim saw - too aggressive for that. and i cannot cut a "slab" because i don't have a proper clamp or vice set up. ron got a bigger mk saw and had a picture up on the set up he used to clamp his rock but i can't find it and i need to see it again. ron where are you?

How well do tile saws work?

they work fine but there real wet and you dont get to use the full size of the blade on a rock trim saw you get alittle better bite,, it goes something like this if you have a tile saw with a 7 inch blade and a 6 inch rock trim saw the rock saw will cut a bigger rock then the tile saw its the way they position the blade--on my 8 inch trim saw you get to use allmost half the blade i think i can cut around 2-3/4 inch thick rock --when i got my tile saw dont get me wrong i loved it but it wasent to long after i had to have alittle bigger saw when i sold it to llana and be it was still new lookin and shiny so i didnt have it very long they work great if you want to cut slabs for shapeing thats what there for thin even tiles mine cut great,, but im bettin after around a month or two your gonna be looking for a bigger one hahaha tell ya the truth i wish i had looked for a 10 inch trim saw --but i did get a lortone 10 inch slab saw there real nice just set it and forget it it has a small motor that walks the vise into the blade so it cuts by itself and will shut off when done,,but ya know what im lookin for one just a bit bigger hahaha i want a 12 or 14 inch lortone slab saw thats why i started sellin cabs to save for one i hope hahaha

hi all.. i bout a piece of thin plexie glass and put it in front of my saw and bent it up tords the front so the water dont hit me . drill a few holes threw the glass threw the saw and that stoped the water problem hope that will help and when you bend it forward use a propane torch to heat it so it will stay bent the way you want it

I like my rock rascal. It really sprays up...but then I don't mind getting messy when I'm doing stuff. It doen't have a drawer that pulls out so you can clean the part where the coolant goes in...My saw is second hand and seems to have worked well for many years so maybe cleaning isn't necessary. But I'd feel better if I could see what was going on inside there. Other than that I like it. I've never used another saw though so I don't know how it'd measure up.
