Hi all
My name is Sally and I don't feel like a new member. I have been reading on this site for months. Joined and then never had my password with me. It's not one I can remember.
2 years ago I went gem mining in NC for a couple of days and haven't been able to get it out of my system. Started with a child's tumbler, found rock shed. Have been recovering from illnes for a long time so don't have much spare money to order rocks. I am a healing practitioner myself and love all the rocks and now they are everywhere. During this time I have watched the dynamics of this group and am fascinated. Yu can feel the warmth through the computer (things of which I haven't been very close to). The moments and warmth I have felt have been treasures. Rockhounds are close to the earth and it is felt. Thank you.

Hi Sally, Welcome to the forum! Passwords are a pain in the patootie and an unfortunate evil necessity of life on forums. When you log in (if you haven't found this already) you can click on the drop down menu and select forever so you are always kept logged in here. Tumbling should be a good thing for you while you continue to recover, to me it's very soothing and I love listening to them rolling. I'm glad you rejoined so we can get to know you. Cher

Pleased to have ya jump on board. I'm a newbie too, to tumbling and lapidary anyway. Been a mineral and stone collector for years, and I love rough rock (just as Mama Nature made it). Many of my rocks will stay just as I found them. These are the greatest and most generous folks you will ever find. [glow=red,2,300]WELCOME[/glow] - Susan

Thanks for the warm welcome. In my immediate vicinity, it's mostly fossils. The beach is 1.5 hrs away so there a source for some. NC mountains have many i.e. quartz, aquamarine, emerald, ruby saphire, some topaz. That's where I really got hooked. Grew up in a stone house but felt the heart part as I became a holistic practitioner. They wonderful raw and polished. Haven't been able to get back to mts, (7 hrs) but have that in the vision, may even move there, or lat least closer. I've taken hints from you guys all along and was thrilled when my son & wife gave me a 2-brl lortone for my birthday last year. Did a couple of batches and they looked wonderful to me, but I think this last batch may be better as I am getting the 1000 for prepolish. Need more rocks now.

I too started with the rolling stones rock tumbler with the plastic barrels and the lousy results. now i have 4 lortone units and a whole shop of equipment
north carolina is also my first dig and hunt and find of true (unseeded) local stone.
also this board looks great for people who have a generous soul and welcoming warmth. well good night for now all.

I know nothing about rocks or rock polishing. I am now the proud owner of 10 heavy bags of lower quality ruby or corundum stones (a legal story too long to explain here).
Anyone have any ideas on what I can do with about 200 pounds of this material. The material varies in size from small gravel size pieces to ones about the size of a nickel or a quarter.
I am willing to buy a vibrating or tumbling polisher and go to work on this material if that is a viable idea.
Thanks for your time in answering and your guidance in a problem for me that seems to never go away.

Sally, welcome! I don't tumble rocks, but this site is good in other hobby related pursuits. Lots of excellent tumblers here.
