KD great point!!!! Ours used to get creamed every winter- The nieghbor drove a 6x6 into the ground about 3 feet- then put up 4x4 cross memebers- the dang things weighs about 400 Lbs- and it don't move- they kinda swing wide when they get to my house!

we finally got tired of replacing the "USPS Approved" models, sheesh, between the kids with baseball bats and the county plows, our rural mail persons were getting mad at us all the time.
So our dear friend that works in a sheet metal shop made us a model out of 1/4" stainless (you can buy these for about $400!!) and hubby installed it on a post the "gives", i.e. will rotate when hit, so you just have to reposition it when the plow smacks it.
needless to say, we still get the occasional pumpkin guts on it around halloween, and the door has taken a few bends so it isn't quite waterproof anymore, but it takes a bashing and we still get our mail.
