Sorry to hear that, Daniel. It's good you had the power to cut his pain. Find a company for Hagatha, she is probably suffering at least as much as you do.
Very sensible story, NMrocks!

Wow Daniel, you've had a tough time of it already. Hug and cuddle Hagatha cat. She'll be missing the Hoodlum of the family as well. I dread this time with all my pets as they start aging.

Hi guys -
Thanks for the kind thoughts. I will make a memorial donation to the local shelter just like I did after Hacky Cat passed last Fall. That worked out pretty good. My donation helped the shelter keep two brothers until a setting was found that would take them both. I think something like that is a nice bit of closure when a pet passes, because there are so many animals in shelters who will not be as lucky most housepets are.
I'm fine (even relieved) now that everything is done.
Interesting story: Unlike Hagatha and Hacky, Hoodlum choose me instead of the other way around. After my divorce in late 1994, I was in a rut and barely consented to drive 100mi down to Houston and pay my sister a holiday visit around the new year. But really I was just going through the motions, mostly so the rest of the family would leave me alone; I certainly was not full of holiday cheer, or looking for a cat - or any type of dependent or responsibility.
Two of her queens had just had litters 5 days apart in September, and there were 4 adults, 5 adolescents, and 11 kittens in her apartment. (I'm sure her landlord could not have known this!) My sister offered me a kitten, but I declined because I did not want to care for anything but myself right then. Anyway, I was on the sofa-sleeper and all of the cats settled down into a big pile at the foot of the bed. But through the night Hoodlum kept coming up and nuzzling my face. I gently pushed him away a few times so I could sleep. He was persistant, and somewhere in the early hours, I stopped pushing him away and started scratching his head. In the morning Hoodlum was sleeping next to my shoulder while all the other cats were still in a big pile at my feet. I thought it was special that he wanted to visit with me more than cuddle up with all his siblings and cousins. I decided to take my sister up on her offer, and asked at breakfast if I could also have Hagatha so Hoodlum would not be lonely when I went to work each day. I am glad that Hoodlum was so persistant, because having the cats helped lift me out of my rut, and many enjoyable years of cat friendship followed.
Well, I hope you liked the story. If you don't have a cat, rush out an get a few.

Aww - I was rooting for Hoodlum and I'm sorry that he didn't make it. Best wishes to you and Hagatha.

Deb & Daniel: So sorry to hear about your friend. I too lost a cat friend in November, but last week I gained 5 more. I live at the end of a road and folks throw their unwanted animals out all the time. This was a pregnant kitty and she just had 4 kittens. They are so cute. It was so cool watching her "nest". Momma kitty "Smudgey" imediately go onto my stomach and crawled to my neck and laid her head under my chin and started purring. Even after the kittens, she still has to jump into my lap and lay her head under my chin. A quick and for ever bonding I reckon. Take Care !! Again sorry for your loss !! GaRock (Frank)
