Well, my 16-year-old son somehow nipped the very tip & nail of his left index finger off in shop class this week. Don't ya love those phone calls from the school nurse? And I had just bought a WF, and he was totally gung ho to help me get it set up. He thought he had more experience than I do. ;D Guess he's right! Makes me a little paranoid about setting the WF saw up! He's fine , I'm fine ;D (altho I haven't received the Dr. bill yet). He actually golfed in a tournament the next day. His finger was OK, painwise, but his shoulder really hurt from the tetanus shot. Go figure. Life with young men is so interesting!

Ouch! Glad to hear both of you are OK! Guess what - it doesn't get better with age. Although I haven't managed to cut off any body parts, just last weekend I was working on my car when a wrench slipped off of a very tight bolt and my hand jammed into the engine. No big deal but a little bit later I noticed blood running down my arm. Oh well, not the first time.
Anyway, the Work Force may be safer than the usual power tool because its blade doesn't really have any "teeth" on it. You can actually touch the blade while it's running without injury. However, it is a power tool and you do have to use it wisely.

Haha, there was a family discussion last week about all my injuries growing up, it lasted a hour and a half!!
I agree about the wf, the blade that comes with it and most of the replacement blades will not hurt you. But be very careful with the 7" Skill brand blade as it will.

Rich, that is a hoot. I didn't realize anyone was counting. When I called Home Depot, I did actually tell the gal what I wanted to do with the saw, since I wanted to get at least one extra blade and wasn't sure which one would be best for cutting rocks. She had no clue, talked to her supervisor, he had no clue. I told them that they were missing out on a lucrative buyer base, as rockhounds across the nation were buying their tile saws to cut rocks. The gal got such a kick out of that, because she has a collection of 'cool' rocks that have 'followed her home' over the years. I referred her to this website.

Thanks, guys, for setting my mind at ease about the WF safety issues. KG, hope your hand is OK? And you can really touch the WF blade? Not that I will try that, nore will I tell my son it's even remotely feasible, but that does make me feel a bit more confident.

Have fun with the Workforce- It has NEVER drawn blood from me- and I touch the blade all the time- the only time I bleed when cutting rocks is when I work with obsidian or other such nasties- those little shards can be very sharp- OH safety glass are a must- I have a few dings in my glasses that woulda been in my eye- I also like earplugs cause after an hour or so of cutting you get this ringing in your ears!

Karen, I told you I file my fingernails every time I use the WF but have yet to draw blood. Don't let your son near it though, kids can do amazing things without even trying. Hope his finger is better.

His finger looks pretty gross, now that it's scabbed over. He's got a blood blister under the nail, and the scabbed part is all black and nasty looking, like it's supposed to be. No signs of infection, doesn't seem to impair his typing much (I've seen him on MSN, still pretty darn quick). Has not affected his golf game, in fact he cut several strokes off at the last meet. Go figure!
