Is that Texas flint extra hard to tumble or what? I've had it in 60/90 for a week already and it seems like there hasn't been a lot of shaping on it. Do you have any special hints for this stuff? I'm really excited about it so I guess maybe just a tad impatient. ;D I have a rotary, have you done any in your's or do you usually do it in the vibe? Thanks, Cher

Like everything Texas, that flint is tough, tough, tough!! ;D It takes several weeks in 60/90! Once you get it thru the 60/90 stage, it's a breeze, but that 60/90 stage is a doozie! ;D Put on yer patience cap!
OH, BTW, the Superluster polish I talked about on the other thread for the railroad rocks isn't Superluster. It's SureLuster. There is a SureLuster pre-polish and a SureLuster polish. I have the polish. I got it at Dad's Rock Shop. It's about $11.00/lb, pretty expensive, but since I polish in the vibe, it goes a long way. One of these days I might get some of the prepolish too and check it out too. I sure like the polish.

Several weeks huh? Oh well, now at least I know it wasn't something stupid like my hubby asked ... "Did you forget to put the grit in?" ...
Thanks Llana!!

Hh but Cher, it's sooo worth the wait. I got spoiled with the vibe, but flint just shapes and shines up so beautifully. I've got a bunch of it waiting now and I've not yet shaped in the rotary, so I may be eating my words, but... I do love flint ;D

I've had it running in one of my 6 lb barrels since the 20th, recharged on the 26th. I'm just chomping at the bit and my patience level is not very high right now. ;D One thing about the QT66, I've got entirely different stuff in the other barrel so it's not going to hold me up waiting. I've got something in each stage at all times, although it took awhile to get to this point. I'll keep track of how long it takes and let you know Cookie, although I think I probably take mine down a bit more than you. I like "smoooooooooth", really smooth, so it probably will be several weeks. With your 15 pounder though, you can leave it in and still have stuff coming out ready to move on ... what'cha waitin for?? *smile*

I'm in CO with the good stuff now. The "pretty thing" Stoner made for me holds 2 3# Lortone barrels and I have them the rocks seperated by how well I think the will turn out. Won't know till Sunday, Though I did peek at the "not so great" barrel after the first 3 days. So far so good ;D

Are you using the smaller barrels for the polish stages? I got a Lortone QT66 for Christmas so now I use that just for the rough and after a thorough cleaning of the smaller barrels, those do the next stages. It's just amazing how much you can put in those bigger barrels, I love it. But, I found out it doesn't work well at all for slabs. I had some pieces of a slab I broke that I tossed in there, they just stuck to the flat sides in the barrel and only polished on one side. Cher
