I have a thumlers tumblers ar-2, the double barrel model. I have heard PVC piping with a threaded end can be used in place of purchased barrels. Anyone know about this or another way to make a barrel. I need to make two barrels for preferably less than 6 dollars a piece.

I'm pretty new with rock tumbling, but something tells me that there would be no problems.
But you will need to glue something to the sides (something thin and small like a plastic pen tube cut lengthwise). 2 - 4 of them at opposite sides of eachother, onto the inside of your barrel. Otherwise your rocks will not "tumble", they will just slide, and it will be pointless to have you tumbler running.
I'm assuming it'll be harder to clean your barrel out if you use PVC (just like the pastic kiddie models). The rocks and grit will eventually wear the sides thin. Leaving scratches and gouges where grit can wedge itself into.
I would love to hear how it turns out, please keep us posted. Alice
