I'm having some trouble with my AR12 Thumbler's Tumbler. It has been working great, but now it just won't spin. The motor is working fine and when I place an empty barrell it will spin, but the full one will not. I have tried changing pulley belts, but that hasn't worked either. On the shaft that has the pulley, I placed electrical tape because the rubber tube that goes over it has worn out. Up until now I haven't had a problem by doing that so I don't know if that could be it. This morning it was making a loud squeaky noise so I squirted it with some WD40. That's when it seem to have stopped spinning. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Could you have gotton WD on the belt or pully? BTW stay away from the WD40 around the tumbler- use oil only- Wd40 tend to overspray and attracks nasties like dust and grit and dirt and will actually wear thing out faster!

hey condor take the belt off and clean the pulleys very good down in the groove and then the belt if the smallest bit of oil or wd 40 gets on it it will make the belt slip with a full barrel ---i went throught it myself so check that first

My husband decided my tumbler needed lubricating. I had the vaseline setting there, I use it to make sure my barrels seal. He coated the whole bars with vaselline. When I checked it, the rods and belts were spinning, but the barrels were just setting there. What a mess. As soon as I got all the vaseline cleaned off, they were spinning like new again. Trish

Sure have! But I really need him if it breaks down. I'm not good with motors and he can build about anything. I have a whole list. Trish

One other thing, once your barrels have spun like that, they can get a glaze on the outside surfaces that the rollers ride on. You might want to lightly dust them off with some sandpaper to slightly roughen the surface.

I got vegetable oil on a brand new rubber barrel by mistake once, just on the bottom along the rim. I found that the rubber was starting to "melt".
I discovered a bunch of black "tar" on the white bearings the barrel tends to turn against while turning.
I removed the barrel and brought the barrel to the kitchen to wipe it up. Placed it on the counter, and reached over to get a paper towel. Lifted the barrel up, and my counter was BLACK of what looked like tar (was atually rubber). I tried to wipe it off, and tried to scrub it off the counter. Nothing worked. The only thing that got it off real easy? vegetable oil!
I wiped the barrel with a paper towel and it left groove all along the rim that's about 1/16 of an inch deep. All from vegetable oil.
Anyone else have this experience?

I had that problem with my lortone 3A, it would spin without a barrel, but when I put a full barrel on it it would not spin. I realized that the rubber beld had stretched, I ordered just a belt and exchanged the belt have not had any more problems with it. As for oiling my tumbler I use sewing machine oil, it comes in a convient because it comes in a plastic bottle that has a narrow tip on it and I can pinpoint where I want to put the oil. Tami

The vegetable oil thing I can understand - they say not to use it as a "lubricant" as it eats away at latex & rubber. Maybe try a bit of KY jelly on the barrels. Yeah I can see hubby getting all excited with the gigantic tube of KY - no honey it's not for you Vaseline has the same problem - I used to put them on the rubber seals on my car (cuz they'd freeze up in the winter & I could never open the doors - even when using a scrapper as leverage) and it would eat the rubber someone mentioned using glycerine

I can understand trying KY, but it tends to dry up quite quickly doesn't it? like hair gel. I think KY's water based and not oil based. I'm not 100% sure though. I'll check the next time I'm at the drug store. My husband's beard / hair trimmer came with a small tube of oil. I ended up using that to oil the motor (just a drop), and used a little on the bushings. The vegetable oil was a freak accident. My son was doing one of his usual kitchen experiments where oil was involved, and He didn't wipe up his mess. I put the barrel down on the counter (where he dripped some oil) and didn't notice it until afterwards. No huge harm done. I'm not overly concerned about it. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one though
