If any of you have kids, you might be interested in this. It appeared in the April 2005 issue of "Rock & Gem" magazine. You can also go to the Mars site at: mars3.jpl.nasa.gov/rockworld/Ron

That is so cool, thanks for posting it. I called my grandson right away to tell him about it. Wonder if I can pretend I'm a kid and send them a piece of that green frog rock I got from Lake Superior? *smile* I'd love to know what that is.

I was looking at the page and saw that someone age 64 sent something in. They want pics of the area you got it from, which I don't have. I'd have to wait until summer (if it ever gets here) if I wanted to do that. They don't tell you what the rock is though, just what it's made of so I wouldn't take up their time for mine. I'm going to take a ride up the North Shore next summer, I know there's a few rocks shops up there. Maybe I'll find someone who won't mind answering my questions about "What this rock is."

Stefan, I'm sure I did but who knows how far back the link is. Here's a pic, these are some neat green rocks I found in Lake Superior. Mostly what I'm trying to find out is what the common names are, like jasper, Minnesota Greenstone, Oviline or whatever. Green Rocks LinkCher

I was wondering if there be someone at one of the rock shows that could tell me about a rock that my son found? actually I got a mess of it. it's a nice cream color, maybe agate don't know. Also is there a problem with gathering rocks from public parks? Bob

I know the parks up here tell you that you can't take anything but most of the time, they don't say alot if you don't get piggy about it.

Hey Cher, I don't remember seeing those pictures of the green rocks before. Don't know where I was. The top ones look like a green basalt porphyry to me. The green color in the basalt is most likely from a dispersion of Olivine, and the darker green phenocrysts are most likely a much purer Olivine.

Cher here is the response I got from my sister: Sure I know what it is, it's greenstone from the Iron Range. I guess she has a bunch of the same thing from Wyoming! I hope this answers your question

I hope this answers your question Thanks for asking Stefan. I was doing some searching and found some pics online of some oviline that looked just like the ones on the top of the pic. Still don't know what the green spotted ones are. But thanks for asking her. These rocks came from south of the "Iron Range". Cher PS ... Ron, I had pics of these in the members gallery when they came out of the polish.
