Hi all,
I have a Larotone 6Lb dual tumbler and love it. I sometimes have smaller loads of a certain step grit tumble and used up my plastic pellets up.
Is there a way to use a 3lb barrel on my Larotone Model QT66 (twin 6lb barrels)...
Any other ideas except getting more rocks? The beach is 4 hours away.... and I wont be back there till the Iditarod ends..... (volunteering)

Yeah, the 3lb bbls might fit. The other thing you can do is to use crap rock as filler. I do it all the time. Mostly the rubies and saphires I tumble. They take forever and I use them as filler in multiple loads.

Hello AlaskaRock,
I can't help you with your question as I have a vibe tumbler.
I would like to welcome you to the board, there are so many fascinating people on this board ... it make my head spin ;D

I don't know about your brand tumbler, but many have a seperate notch to move the rods that the barrels roll on to different positions for different sized barrels. My Thumlers B does. I've never tried it, but the option is there. And for the most part, as long as the rocks are as hard of softer than what you are tumbling, chunk em in there, you should be OK. Good luck!

If your rubies and your saphires are your "crap" rock, what is your good rock?

Hi Cindy, Welcome to the forum. I went and checked for you. Took my two big barrels off and stuck a 3 lb barrel on the QT66. It barely fit between the roller ... and I mean barely. It looked like if it was pushed a bit it would go down between them. I wouldn't suggest it but if you really feel the need for a smaller barrel they do have a 4 lb barrel that I think would work much better.

Rubies and saphires take forever to bring to a shape and polish. I call them crap rock because I have to run them over, and over, and over, and over. That is just to get a bunch to facet. They look wonderful when done but they are frustrating. They are as hard as the grit.

Hi all,
Thanks for suggestions and thanks for the welcome from BearCreekLapidary..... This is truely a cool site! I am learning a lot! RosebudMN great idea! I was thinking of purchasing a 4 Lb barrel to achieve my task! Thanks for doing the experiment for me on the 3 lb barrels! This saves me $$....cause I have to order online since there is not a store up here in Anchorage....... I have found the Rockshed the most inexpensive and realiable...... AlaskaRock- Cindy

You're more than welcome Cindy, glad I had the equipment so I could check it for you. Would hate to see anything happen that messed up your QT66. Good luck and welcome to the forum!!
Cher PS ... I agree with you on the Rock Shed, they are great.
