Everybody must have one. C'mon, tell me about yours! This is my first month of this all comsuming hobby. After three days, I checked my first batch in polish and found this ROCK. It's a rich chocolate brown, shaped like a candy bar. Looks good enough to eat. It has a perfect impression that fits my thumb on the front and forefinger on back and is so smooth and shiny. I have adopted a rock. It is so relaxing to just set and rub this stone.
Tell me about yours. Trish

I've got one I've put on my work desk. I call it the "papoose" . It looks like a bundled up little Native American baby.

Stones like that are also called worry stones. When you get stressed out just rub the stone and you will feel better. I guess it could also be called a pet rock, a polished pet rock would be better than the ones they used to sell as pet rocks, those were just ordinary rocks without a polish. Tami

My pet rocks is a 17 pound chunk of jasper/hematite mix that my grandson dug up in the gravel pit. Haven't had the heard to break it up yet.

I'm still trying to get a batch of decent stones to post - got one in polish now, not sure how they'll look - they don't look shiny at all so far - more of a matte finish (please don,t tell me all of these will have to go in my do-over pile )

I would like to suggest that some of you might like to send a video of you washing your "pet" rock to America's Funniest Home videos.
They are asking for videos of people washing their pets.

My favorite is a mystery, perhaps, gastrolith, hematite or ironstone, see:

Looks like hematite to me, lots of nice red iron ore on it.

Of all the rocks I have, my favorite is a piece of petrified wood that was found by one of my favorite former students of mine. He found it there at school and and offered to give it to me. I gladly took it and in turn bought him a coke. It put it in my tumbler and it turned out to have taken a very excellent high gloss polish. I called it my Markrock in honor of his name. I've had the rock now about fifteen years. Sadly, just this past November, Mark died in a tragic rollover car accident at the age of twenty five. The rock now means more to me than it ever did.
