I'm just wondering if it's ok to take ALL your rocks out of the barrel, rince them off and then continue tumbling? Or is it not a good idea at all?
My son is trying to convince me of doing just that. Emeralds have been tumbling for only 4 days in coarse grit. He wants me to take each and every single one out so that he can observe the changes so far.
I told him that if everybody here says it's OK, then we'll go ahead and do it. If not, then he's going to have to wait till it's been tumbling for at least a week (recharge day)

hahaha he's hooked --when i first started i was taking them out every two days and rinsing them off and looking then puttin them back in the slurry --only prob i can see is you rinse off the good slurry when you do that but if your gonna run them in 60/90 for acouple weeks it will catch up the grind

I think he's hooked on these emeralds. But tumbling in general. No interest.
Thanks Sands. I'm sure my son would kiss you if he could.
I'll take pictures seeing that they'll be rinced off, and I'll post them up in the Yippy! my Emeralds are here! thread

Hope you have something in with them that will show how it's moving along faster. Hahaha ... yes, by all means, look to your hearts content. I was "looking" at mine every other day when I started. I've graduated to 5 days now and sometimes they even run a whole week without me peeking.
Cher
PS ... just checking ... you do know that you should not dump the slurry down the drains right?

Yup, I know all about not dumping the slurry down the drain. And I made sure my son knows it too (just in case he decides to open the barrel on his own, even though he knows he's not supposed to).
We have a very large icecream container that we used as a bucket for the rocks. We filled it 1/2 way with water and just rinsed them in there. A lot of grit / slurry settled to the bottom of the bucket, so we poured the water into another container, and threw the grit / slurry back in the barrel. The dirty water ended up being splashed out in the snow.
A little of the water did go down the drain, but no more then a tablespoon (It splashed as my son was pouring). Just flushed it out with tap water for a few minutes.
