Well I got home yesterday and went to check the thumblers (I call it Little Red as My mom has a ATV called big red) And my wife came running down the stairs as I was SWEARING UP A STORM- I developed a leak (well actually the tumbler did) Not sure what happened (this is day 5 in course) but there was dried slurry on the rollers and base and barrel- What a mess- but I did get to peak at the Ocean Jasper and Bubblegums! Not much to report as they are still "roughing" it but there are a few winners in this batch! Well after a lenghty cleanup (that involved me screaming, stubbing my toe, screaming some more, and threating to put the whole shabang on Ebay) I got rolling again- This morning there was not even a burp of slurry from Little Red. Seems to be the week for tumbler malfunctions!

Awww that's a bummer. No idea what caused it? I keep praying that I don't ever find anything like that in my basement. I have my stuff in a rather small area so it would get all over everything.

My tumbler is in my basement next to the wall where I have my cold room. I figure if the thing leaks, maybe I'll be lucky and it will go where the baseboards should have been put up & it will hide the gap in the drywall. Did it make much of a mess of the tumbler? how long since you last checked?

I've had my kiddie tumbler leak before. But not a huge mess like yours from the sounds of it. All mine did was develop a drip (I probably didn't clean the rubber ring well enough), and the next day I found the barrel covered in white. the base was pretty clean. only a few drips that was easily taken care of with a damp paper towel.
Sorry to hear about your mess stefan. I'd help clean up if I could Alice

DOn't know why this happened- I'm glad I checked it first thing! I had only lost about 1/3 of the water and I checked it this AM and everything is A OK! I have my tumbler in a Kitty Litter box (without the kitty or the litter) So the mess was contained- but Still not sure what went on- Hmmmm Wonder if the kids were messing around!

could be a number of things stefan. Gas? the lid wasn't secure? The lid and the lip weren't clean? someone peeped in and didn't put it together right (or didn't clean the lip and lid, freeing it of muck or grit)? If only tumblers could talk

I checked mine this morning and had two 6 lb barrels leaking. I've been using them for a month now. They're both used. As long as I put a smear of vaseline around the seal, it has nevered leaked. It's so messy that way, I decided I would really scrub it down and try to get a good seal without it. It did fine for about 24 hrs, but was really a mess this morning. I had to recharge and put vaseline on it again. What a mess to clean up. Trish

Whenever I open up my barrel I make sure the lid is clean and dry before I put it back on.
Another thing I do is take a toothbrush to the lip (the part the lid sits on) of the barrel and dry it with a paper towel. Making sure it's free of muck and grit.
after I put the lid on the barrel and put the rubber ring, I give the barrel a light squeeze so some air escapes and there's a little suction in the barrel. I also squeeze hard around where the rubber ring is to make sure everything's nice and tight.
So far I've had no problems, but then again my unit is still somewhat new.
I have heard that Vaseline can make rubber barrels deteriorate. I'd think twice before using it.

Well the culprit owned up- My son was curious and squeezed the barrel- well I guess it must of oozed a bit and once it got started- well it just kept on going!
