hey all,
i was very chuffed (that is the Brit term for pleased as punch) to sell my first batch of polished stones in situ. no drilling, no glueing, no wirework, no magnets, no pin backs, just a box of rocks.
now, mind you, these were SELECT nice rocks!
a friend of mine that is into beading wanted to try her hand at wirewrap and knew i was a good (cheap) source for stones. so i put together a bag of 50 pieces, about 13 ounces, of a variety (agate, jasper, sodalite, amethyst, quartz).
i labeled them 50 cents each or the whole bag for 20 bucks (USD).
she emailed me today to let me know i wasn't getting any back!
as i said, i felt chuffed, happy, there was a sort of gratification in there too. i had a mex lace pendant on today when i went to lunch and the waitress actually noticed ( or perhaps that is a new ploy for a good tip).
it worked.
i know a lot of ya'll give the rocks away and that is cool too,
KD

"Chuffed." Cool word. Never heard it before. Well I'm chuffed that you are chuffed and your friend is chuffed. I'll try not to use "chuffed" so much because I don't want to get anybody into a huff.

I'm not half barmy with delight about your sale! My cake 'ole is hanging open and ...um ... "allo allo wot's all this then? spam spam spam and I'm pining for the fjords".
ahem That, in my incredibly sucky brit accent, was my way of saying congrats. or as my people say "congrats, eh?"!

thanks for all the kind words and well wishes. it isn't so much making money for profit, it's more like offsetting the cost of the hobby (addiction) enabling me to delude myself that i can spend even more money on rough.
sell some/buy more, it's the American Way!

Way to go. That would be my ideal situation, selling some tumbled and shiney and let some jewerly people I know make the finished product. May look into that this year. If I could make 20 -30 dollars, I wouldn't feel so guilty about spending a 100+ dollars. Heck if I made $50 I'd probably run out and buy a slab saw! ;D
