Can anyone tell me why it is suggested to use Ivory flakes for burnishing? Is there a difference between Ivory Flakes and Tide? I have been using Tide but wonder if I would get better results with Ivory Flakes. We don't use Ivory Flakes at our house, only Tide.

Hi Ho Silver!! I doubt if you can find Ivory Flakes anymore but you can use Ivory bar soap and shave it. The reason for using Ivory is it has no phosphates which are a no no in burnishing and also they can harm your tumbler barrels. The only product that I have found that's used on gentle clother is Dreft Powdered Laundry soap. Tom

I think you can also use Borax which sometimes you can find in the laundry isle. I found mine at walmart. Tami
