Rocks into Gems...
What are your opinions regarding this book? Is it easy to use? Is it helpful for a beginner?
Thanks again! Kelley

i purchased this book when i first started, it's helpful when you are beginning, but honestly, your instructions you get with your tumbler plus the info in here (research some old postings) will save you the $14.95. it's a good reference to have if you want to invest.

I think site provides more help than any book could. You get experience, and feedback to your questions. No book can do that..

Not having read the book, I can't give an opinion of it. But I will say that we have some experts right here and they offer up their suggestions, advice, info for free. So, I'd rather spend $14.95 on rocks or other tumbling/beading stuff. Banjo, James and a few others here that can turn out eye-popping gems are expert enough for me!
BTw, welcome aboard!

Save yourself the $14.95, and instead send me $10.00 and I will provide you with the links from this site that will give you better tips. Just look at some of the stuff that so many people have polished. Amazing. Remember, only ten dollars.

Hi Kelley and welcome to our group!! I bought the book (more of a pamphlet) many years ago and it helped me a lot. There was no internet then and and surely not a web site like this. I still look at it every now and again along with several other bits if information, catalogs, etc. in the only room in the house where no one will dare bother me.There's no telephones,no TV and absolutely NO Honeydo!! LOL Books are great and so is this group and they both have one thing in common. Many different ways to tumble rocks! As a "newbie" this can get very confusing and frustrating. "Why does he say to do it this way and she says to do it that way"? I've used this example before but i'll use it again and again. There are probably thousands,if not more, recipes for apple pie but the end product is the same,,,,apple pie!!What works for one doesn't always work for another and there's always that single apple pie that you just want more of because you think it's perfect. Don't get wrapped up in trying this recipe and trying that recipe.KD made a good point when she said to use the instructions that came with your tumbler. After using those instructions several times you'll have a much better idea of what's good info and what just not you're piece of apple pie. Good luck and ask lotsa questions,,,,,That's what we're here for!! Tom

Hey Tom- I want some apple pie! Welcome Kelley- The first step in achieving greatness is to begin! I take very good notes (grit used, type of rock, day started, ect.) as I go- then I can go back and figure what works and what doesn't- I read this board and print posts that are relivant to what I'm working on now- But I also jot down stuff that may apply to future endovers! It is a great hobby and there is so much room for learning- and everyone on here is willing to share both success and failures!
