I found a minerology club in my region and they have monthly meetings and they have 6-10 excursions per year. The kids are welcome as well as long as they are well behaved & listen to instructions (that rules out my kids!) My 9 year old daughter will probably follow me on excursions since she's pretty good in the behaved department and understands danger. But my 5 yr old son is a hazard on his own - thinks he's spiderman (he can climb anything - & I mean anything) superman (jumps off the last 5 steps in my stairs - he's less than 3 feet tall) and he's got superhuman strength (he can carry those 5 gallon water bottles) - I am a Dean Cain freak & I figure this kid was made with that guy in mind - If only his abilities could be used for good instead… Anyways, the club registration is only $30 per year and most outings are free (gas & mileage only) to various mines & sites. The president tumbles rocks as well and she gets all her material from these outings - (now if I could only find inexpensive grit). At least this way I'll be able to identify some rocks (she said the region is full of all sorts of stuff) and be helpful on the board. I'm so psyched!

The club sounds great Tweet, wish there was one near me! Fieldtrips sounds like they will be really interesting. SNAP I've got a Spiderman of my own too, he is also 5 ! He is even worse since he watched The Incredibles - he has to go everywhere "superhero fast" But he is a little rockhound in the making ! He brings me stones home that he has found while at school (I have to always check his pockets otherwise they end up clattering around in the washing machine - I've acutally got a couple he picked up in the tumbler at the moment !

The president asked told me that at some point it would be preferable to give her "permission" to push my son out of the way if danger is near - I figure if I give her permission at some point she'll push him off the cliff to get him to quiet down - He's quite stubborn (takes after all grandparents) and pig-headed (granddads) and he doesn't listen if he wants something he wants it and "No" is not an option… I'm hoping that when he starts school next year that the principal of his school will be very handsome - I figure if I'm always gonna be there because of disciplinary problems, I might as well have something nice to look at...

Congrates tweet- as far as you son goes- Well My 17 yr old was like that- and let me encourage you to get on Valium! It gets worse! But life with him is never boring (he just told me about jumping off a roof onto a trampoline and into a pool And how he missed the pool and destroyed some patio furniture (this kid goes over 250 pounds) Oh well. Oh and I found a club in my area too- but nobody has gotten back to me in like 2 weeks!

Tweety, The club sounds like a good deal. Do they have Ladidary Equip. to share?
Have you ever heard of SuperNanny? I think you need her services immediately! csroc

I need SuperNanny, Dr. Phil and the fear of God - Someone told me they knew a kid like that - said he died at 11 while walking on a train track - (now that's encouraging - no wonder I have grey hairs). I'm hoping he'll outgrow it or something - doesn't sleep much either... But he's the sweetest little thing - love him to death - wouldn't trade him for anything or all the stone in the world - except for maybe some of that fantastic porcelain jasper.. ;D As for the club - not sure what they offer, gonna call up to join this month - first meeting March 30

Tweety what area are you in exactly? I know you said outawais (spelling?), but there's many towns out that way. Does this club have a web site?
my 9 year old was just like that when he was younger. But he quieted down when his brother was born (in grade 1). He was so bad at school, not listening, sitting in his own little world, doing whatever he wished whenever he wanted, picking fights, setting his own rules, etc... that the school decided on getting him assessed, and stuck an integration aid with him for the rest of his schooling in that school. I also had social services come to the house to see what was going on. They found absolutely nothing in his home environment. Then one day his little brother came along, and now he's a little more responsible in his actions. He doesn't play with his brother much though, but at least he's quiet, and he listens! I guess subconsciously he's figuring that Mom needs only 1 terror in her life (And that would be his little brother right now ) So maybe that's what you need. To get your little a guy a new brother or sister

The club is in Hull Quebec - just outside Ottawa here's the web site: actually if you look you'll see a calendar - where they have locations & dates for shows - some even in your area mywebpage.netscape.com/ratyvon/CMO.htmlAs for a brother or sister (not ever gonna happen - EVER) he loves little babies but after I had my daughter (who was stubborn as well) I figured I couldn't get any worse.... WRONG... he has his good moments when he's a sweet angel but it's just his curiosity that will get him at some point. He got a 2nd degree burn on his arm when he was 2 cuz he wanted to see the wiggly thing on my pressure cooker - he pulled up a chair and burned his arm - cried maybe 10 seconds & it was over - except for the bandages & gauze & cream for 2 weeks - NOW he knows what burn is - So I figure that once he breaks a body part, he'll know what that means - so far - he's invincible and has a very high threshold for pain. Took him out of his crib at 1 year old because he was climbing up onto the raised railings to stand on the headboard & pull the stickers off the wall - now he spends many of the early minutes of his bedtime pushing his bed back & forth across the carpet of his room (that bed weighs a ton too)

Thanks for the site Tweetie Too bad it's in french. I'm one of the few quebecers you hear about. I have lived here all my life but don't know how to read or speak it well (my french is very basic... I can't hold a conversation). I'll e-mail it over to Hubby and get him to translate it for me . Alice

Anyone else part of a club like this - they say you need full all-risk coverage for everyone who goes there. This is scaring me now!

Sounds like they visit a lot of quarries. It doesn't happen often, but sometimes there are land slides or avalanches.
Tweety, do you ever go to Hudson, Rigaud or even by Lac Simon or Montebello? They have some really nice rocks over down by the water.

How exciting is that to find a club in your area. You will definitely have fun with it. Alice Alice, if it's a web page, go here and put the url in, select french to english and you'll get it translated. You can also enter text into the block to get a translation too. Might not be perfectly accurate but it will give you the gist of it. world.altavista.com/Cher

Montebello is kinda near by - could go out for a look Alice, if you're interested, there's a site where you can find a club in your region - just a minute - collection.nlc-bnc.ca/100/201/300/cdn_rockhound/1997-2000/clubs/qc.htmlTry this link you may find one in your area. If they have "dangerous" visits, I doubt I'd bring the kids, they can stick to the mines & easy digs.

Cher, thanks for the link. I have used Babble fish countless times, but I'd say about 1/2 of what I usually want to translate doesn't translate.
Tweety, thanks for the link. The closest ones are in downtown Montreal. Too bad there's nothing closer.
There's a bridge in (I think) in Hawsburry or maybe it's even in Hull? which one day I will go and visit with the kids to find rocks. Just gotta find a place to park the car.
