it making a chugging sounds, it wasnt when I started a month ago and it's getting louder! What's wrong with it and how can I fix it? It's a Chicago model # 46376 3lb barrel. Any advice would be appreciated. THANKS!!!Marian

sounds like you need oil. you should oil once a month (bearings and the motor).

check your belt, sounds like you may need a new one!

I say it needs oil too. Check your motor for possible two places that you can squirt oil into.

Here's the culprit: I oiled the motor and bearings too for good measure, shes purring like a kitten! THANK YOU ALL AGAIN!!! Marian

Yes you need to oil it. I have a Lorotone 3A tumbler and I had to oil the end of the rods that the barrel sits on because it started making the same sound. Since we have a lot of little vials of sewing machine oil I just used that. I only had to put one or two drops on it to get rid of the noise. Tami

If your tumbler stops running and your belt looks like it is in good shape, not like yours, then your belt has probably stretched. I had a problem with that. Tami

Tami I think that's what happend Tami, it stretched out and then eventually deteriorated. It's gradually was getting louder and slower, this morning it sounded like a train was pulling into my kitchen. I'm glad I'm "back on track" lol... Marian

Kind of looks like what happened to my belt. Hubby checked it over and said it needed to be aligned too. You might want to check that on yours, make sure the belt is inline. On mine, one pulley was slightly out of line with the other which I'm sure contributed to the belt's demise.
