Knobby little suckers aren't they, no wonder it was so hard to wash them up. You just found those laying around? Dang I do live in the wrong part of the country.

NM-
Those really are very cool. Good luck in bringing them along. Thanks for sharing.
Rosebud-
Hang on there sweet thing, I just recall you posting some cool picts of those Lake Superior Agates you find up there on the "range". You probably have a collection that rivals anyone else!
That batch your son cooked up for you must be worth some nice cash, isn't it?
LOL,
Gaetz

That is a very nice batch and the rock hammer in the photo is a nice touch too ;D You'd be surprised at how much money those little suckers bring. There is a real market for them here. Kind of like opals. I've been up past my knees in that 'Arizona mud', and let me tell you, when that stuff dries it is not much different than concrete! Good collecting there Susan!

Gaetz - that was my first rockhounding experience in Az and I was very impressed. I had been trying to get down to the Round Mountain collecting area since November, but every time I was packed and ready to go, a Hellacious storm would blow up from the Gulf. SE Az and the Gila Valley got hammered this winter. Round Mountain is in a fairly remote area, I usually rock alone (however, I do take my 3 rockhounding dogs) and I didn't want to get stuck. So, when a window of good weather appeared, off I went. I'm not a "quantity collector", but this trip I brought back a 5 gallon bucket full of rock, a lot for me. I'm an agate lady, always have been, and I love botryoidal rock. Some of the best rock at Round Mounatin looks like Dragon's skin. Many of the pieces display true irridescense, and the white chalcedony is gorgeous, too... lots of texture and bubbly glass-like layers. Throw in the geodes... well, I was in Rock Heaven. If I can figure out how to use the macro-mode on my digital camera, I'll try to get some detailed closeup photos of individual rocks to post. Sadly, I did not make it back this weekend, as the weather is again questionable. Instead, I stayed home and recharged the tumblers. I'm psyching myself up for next Sun/Mon! Wish me luck! S Banjo - the Estwing was included just to give an idea of size. Although I did find some gorgeous less-than dime-size pieces, these are good-sized fire agates. I do have a fair idea of their monetary value. I don't think any of these pieces will be "worked" in any way, but will be appreciated for the beautiful creations of Mother Nature that they are. They truly are inspirational specimens. I feel quite fortunate to have found them. PS: I did, however, throw some of the less extraordinary pieces into a tumbler. S Cher - I drove almost 400 miles to get there, 4-wheeled into the site, hiked up and down washes for 2 days, and in the process dicovered these little beauties. I attribute it to being in the right place at the right time. With the amazing flash floods that have occurred in the area this Winter, I believe I was able to reap the benefits of all these little gems being tossed and turned around in the Az mud. I didn't have to do any digging at all, and it was great fun! Now that I have a good idea of what can be found in the area, next time I will look a little longer, a little harder, and dig a little deeper. S
