When I was younger I seem to remember movies (or was it a boyscout manual?) that claimed you could start a fire by striking two pieces of flint together. This would cause sparking and hence fire. Being a young cityslicker I never saw the need to get past matches, fireworks, and magnifying glass fires. So my question is whether the flint we tumble is the same flint used to start a fire when you are lost in the woods without other firemaking equipment? tks csroc

Flint and STEEL! 2 chunks of flint will do little- When my son was in scouts they had to start a fire with the flint and steel- The key is to have the proper tinder! What I used (cheating I know) was shavings from a magnesium fire starter block!! Our fire started WAY before anyone elses!
