I'm going to Las Vegas (aka Lost Wages) for 5 days in mid-May. I was thinking it'd be really cool to rent a jeep, and get out into the Nevada desert to do some collecting. Right after I collect my winnings, that is... any suggestions? S

Hi, I don't have suggestions about what to look for out there, but I will watch the thread. As far as gambling, you can save alot of time and just drop off a check at the casino and you will have more time for collecting rocks. Have a great and safe trip! Jody

Yeah, I'd save $$ by just doing the rock hunting, sounds like more fun to me. Have fun and good luck.

on the board awhile back there was a tread talking about black opals in northern navada. If Vegas isn't to far from where there found that would be a biggy on my list of things to do! Bob

The black opal site in Northern Nevada is about 6 or 7 hours away. You'd probably have better luck heading to southern Utah or parts in norther Nevada.

I agree ... keep your money and head for the hills ;D
It will definitely be more fun and you save money at the same time.
Besides that ... when you get back and your hubby is cranky because he lost so much money ... you can kindly tell him that you hit the jackpot ... and then proceed to pull rocks out of your pockets ;D
What ever you decide to do ... have a great time and remember ... what goes on in Vegas ... stays in Vegas ;D
Enjoy,
John

Looks like the Opal site might be a ways from Vegas. I once drove to Red Rock canyon, but all I remember is sandstone. Kaepple's Rockhounding Nevada has some sites within driving distance of Vegas (but you never know when he last went there). You would not be that far from SW UTAH if you have enough time, plenty of collecting there. csroc
