Yep...another page! ;D I plan on also making one for selling wire jewelry. That will be quite an under taking, so bear with me. www.keystonejewelry.com/newbie%20info.htmI also discovered today, that I need to make back links to the main info page...ack! I'll get it all together one of these days.

Hi Karen, I haven't had time to read all of the page, but I love the "critique my piece" section. Reading it, I got even more ideas on how to wrap correctly (I've never wrapped), but also how to offer constructive comments. Thanks! I can't wait to read the rest of your site... gotta find the time!

Wow - I just checked that site out as well. I really need to work on my wrapping before I would even THINK about submitting a piece. There are some amazing artists on that site!

The biggest downfall I have seen in beginners, is not sharpening their tools. I cannot tell you how many times I have had students come back after using their tools on ferrous metals and then making a wrap. Some of them have even given up from that point. Sharp tools leave no marks! Mandrels get rusty and the rust makes the size larger, sometimes enough so the ring does not fit. Just try soldering a wire ring that is too large. I can do it, but I do not like it. Sharpening tools is critical. Even the high speed steel tools need sharpening. Rust takes up size, impact sites on the tools print on the work. Look at the tips of the chain link, duck bill, mandrel pliers. All that prints on the work.

Thanks all!
To be honest, I do not have any rust on my tools. Still, that is a great point! I do say to buy stainless steel mandrels...the cheap ones are the pits!
That is another tip that I have forgotten to mention...filing or sanding your tools. This is indeed important. Thank you so much for reminding me. When I sit and start typing...it is easy for me to forget the little things sometimes...I should make notes! sigh... Still, with good people like you, I can fix my short comings! ;D
