I was having a lot of trouble with saw marks and such int the later stages of grinding- Sands gave me this little trick- Take a worn out 600 grit belt (sorry wheel fans but this just won't do it for ya) and run it dry- Shows the scratches you may have missed real well!

Thanks stefan! John had a lot of great knowledge. Another tip is to have a florescent tube overhead. After each grind watch the reflection as you move the stone around. The curved surface magnifies the defects. Rotate the stone 90 degrees on the next finer stone until the previous scratches are gone, then rotate again and move on to the sanding belts.

Yeah Tommy, When John's threads disappeared from his profile, sandsman1, I started searching! Also, we don't have a section on grinding, sanding, or polishing. Or Faceting, so I had to make them up.EDIT: John's posts are back on his profile!

Necro-thread deluxe! Ya know, though, I spend a fair amount of time reading through old threads. There is some interesting stuff there.
