Hi everybody. I buy green coffee beans and roast them at home. It is the freshest and tastiest you can imagine. Does anybody else roast at home? I use a perforated pizza pan and my gas oven. I crank the oven for 10 mins. then the beans go in for 12-16 mins. I got my info at this website- sweetmarias.com/ There's all the info you need to start roasting. If you like coffee, there's nothing like fresh roasted. Geoff

Never knew you could roast at home. We buy our coffee (espresso actually) online from a place that only roasts AFTER they receive your order. So, your coffee is at most a couple of days post-roasting when you receive it. It's great, I must say.

That sounds interesting. Earthdog and I are definitely coffee lovers. We buy whole beans and grind them ourselves. I didn't think you could roast them yourself. I figured the commercial roasters did it the best. We will have to give it a try. Are green coffee beans any cheaper? Thanks for the link, too!

Heard you can roast them in a hot air popcorn popper. Haven't tried it yet. I think it's coffee time!!!!

Titania- That's the way my coffee place is. If you don't roast they roast/ship every week. Takliasunrise- The site I linked sells green beans. Prices are usually 5-6 dollars a pound (you will loose 10-15% water weight) Here's the selections sweetmarias.com/prod.greencoffee.mvc.shtmlFloydrocks- Yes you can use a hot-air popper. Here's a link to that info. sweetmarias.com/instructions.html

I used to buy coffee and tea from a place that had a "home roasters club". They sold the home-roasting machines, and then every couple of weeks, or month or so, they sent you some variety of green beans. It intrigued me, but I didn't do the research to find out if I could do the roasting w/out the $200 machine. And I'm not sure how the price of the green related to the already roasted beans.
Unfortunately, they disappeared (no more website, no more store front, phone number disconnected). And I can't find anyplace local to buy fresh roasted from. I was spoiled in NM, there was a place across from the university, that roasted onsite.... *drools* I used to visit nearly daily... and bought the whole beans for my morning coffee. They also had the only decaf coffee that didn't taste like black water.

I don't drink or really like coffee, but man do I like the smell of roasted coffee beens. When I go to stores, I like to pass by the coffee section just for the smell alone. I can only imagine what those freshly roasted ones must smell like. Mmm good.

I have a pizza pan like that! So, all I need are the beans and I'm ready to go! I see they have a sampler pack, so I may get that and give it a try. If it is good as you all are saying, then maybe I'll have to buy a roaster for my birthday (hint, hint, earthdog). I bet the smell is amazing!
