I have a friend here at Cloud's that does metal art. He uses a computer controlled plasma cutter to cut steel artwork from sheets of steel. A scientist told him the other day that the heat of the plasma cutter creates micro-crystals of diamonds from the carbon in the steel. Anybody ever hear anything about this before? He says he'll try to screen out the metal fragments and give me some of the fine dust from under the machine to try out. I suspect that if true it would be too contaminated to be of any use. He throws out 15-20 lbs. from under the machine every time he cleans.

i don't know about diamonds. but what is left over is probably a hard iron oxide which might work for a first grit. mike

I thought to create diamonds you needed intense pressure as well as heat.
