I am a new member and very new to rock tumbling, and I have my 1st BATCH of rocks in 60/90 almost 2 weeks (have a dual 3 pound tumbler).
My son and I was on the Rock Shed web site to buy some more rocks just for him. He pick out some purple ones (Amethyst), then my daughter came in she wanted the yellow ones (Citrine Crystal). Like a good dad I was putting in the order, when my wife walks in, and she wanted some blue rocks, so some (Sodalite) was added to the order. Well now I have to get some more grit......
Whats next a SAW......
This rocking tumbling thing all started cause I gave my son a Toys R Us rock tumbler for XMAS.
Now I have to many rocks....or do I need another tumber?

If you want to get all those rocks finished all at the same time, you're going to need another tumbler or 2 or 3 or 4 Sounds like your family is hooked on rocks! If you can afford it, get everyone their own tumbler. The only thing they're going to lean on dad for is that magic credit card to get more grit, rock, findings, wire, saws, and a whole lot more!!!

You definitely need another tumbler, then another, then more rock, more grit, then a trim saw, a slab saw, then you will need a grinder, then start buying the supplies to start wrapping those beautiful stones! Welcome to the Hobby! Trish

Yes. Yes. and Yes.
More, more and more. Soon when you stop at a redlight and see a rock, you'll get out of your car and get it... traffic or no.

Welcome to the group. If you have the room I would get another tumbler or two if I were you. As you get into the hobby you will find that you are going to want more and more, first you will get larger pieces of rock when you go for a walk that you want to break up so then you need to get a good hammer, then you will find large pieces that you would like to cut apart instead of break apart. You will then debate in your mind if you just want a saw or do you want a combination and try you hand at cabs. This hobby just keeps going like the energizer bunny, however, it is all worth it especially when you see the delight and hear the compliaments from the person you made something special for with your rocks, it just energizes you and you want to keep doing it. KD Could you convince my DH of this? It's driving him crazy to see all the rocks I bring home in my pockets and then put a ziplock bag for future tumbling. ;D Wendy

I remember when I only had 1 tumbler. That was fun...for a few months. 1.5 years later I have 7 barrels rolling. Another QT66 would be nice too. Rocks all over my garage. Heaven....

A very WARM welcome to Fisman358 AND family .
Indeed , one tumbler will never do ..with 2 tumblers you are just starting to get the hang of it ...3 tumblers start to sound like the sound of music...4 tumblers is still only a Quartet.... 5 tumblers and you are realy on your way....6 tumblers and you show your true colours of a rockhound...After this life becomes easy ... you just want to expand more and more and more .
;D ;D ;D
Enjoy

I going to have to wait on getting another tumber, until at least on batch of rocks are out of polish. The first batch just went in the 3rd week in 60/90.

Be patient grasshoppa Assimilation takes but a short time You will feel no pain You will feel strangly compelled ... ~ to look at the ground whereever you go ... ~ to look at everything and think "wonder if that will polish" ... ~ to buy more tumblers ... ~ to buy rocks that don't fit in your current tumblers ... ~ to insist vacation be planned around "best area to find {insert current favortite rock here}" The list goes on, it does not end, Do not panic, this is normal. Welcome to the forum Dan!!

Boy, do I love reading posts like this. I'm really a family type guy and nothing brings me more happiness than doing things with my family. You are on to something that will give all of you years of fun together. Don't know if you've gone rock hunting yet, but that is lots of fun. The oohs, and ahhs, over any little rock found by the wife and kids. Nothing can beat that.. Enjoy you new hobby. And yes, soon you will have many tumblers, a saw, and other rockhound stuff. Be sure to take plenty of pictures for the memories.
