Been in Vegas for the past week. It was hotter than H-E-DOUBLE-TOOTHPICKS (107 today...) and I didn't see a rock the whole time I was there (other than the finished varieties the designer stores were hawking for way too much $). Can't wait to get my tumbler rolling... Mr Sands, I'm glad you liked the Box O Rocks. Susan PS: Lost a lot of $ I didn't have, but I did get a big bear hug from Penn Jillette (of Penn & Teller fame). hahaha pennandteller.com/

Better hope next weekend is cooler. It is 108° in Mesa Arizona right now. Considering the high desert is the destination it may drop a degree to 107°.

Welcome back Susan, sorry you had to deal with the heat, at least it's dry heat. Only thing we get here is rain, all last week but tomorrow we're supposed to see a spot of sun. Hope so because it's supposed to rain the rest of the week. We barely hit 60 here, it's depressing.

Is there any shade in the Burro Creek area? What do we do mid-day? "Burrow" into the sand to cool off??? I'm used to hot - Albq is 97 today, but compared to 107 in your neck of the woods, it's just balmy here. S

(there's just not any good rock around those trees <grin>. Maybe there will be some water in the creek and you can go wading...I found a great double fist-size mossy agate in the creek one time. Troy cut and flat lapped it for me...hmmm, I wonder where it is. A rockhound friend said it wasn't native to the Burro Creek area and thought It must have washed down from another creek, but I've forgotten the name of it. I do remember that we were unable to get to it because of land closures. Nugget

I don't think you will mind the heat. You'll be so busy going through rocks you won't notice. The creek is dry this time of year, but there are trees and bushes. I have alot of exploeing to do to find that purple Chalcedony. But there is tons of agate and jaspers to be had. I found some really nice dendritic agate that I'd like to find more of as well. Just don't forget your hat!

Welcome back NMrocks. Pleased to hear you found some hot weather . I wouldn't mind at all if you sent us some haha. Just about winter here now and yesterday was a very dark day with fog from start to finish. Closed the local airport .It only got to 7 or 8 degrees yesterday. Today was nicer with sun all day . What a relief haha.
Take care
Jack

Don't worry - I'll be DRENCHED in sunscreen and I'll bring my hat! I was wondering about the dogs - is there shade somewhere I can park the truck under? They usually stay inside the camper while I collect OR I could stake 'em out under a tree. And what about the snake factor? hahaha I can't wait! S

Did you see their show, they are very funny? Penn is one of my Massachusetts Homeboys if I'm not mistaken. csroc

My dog is staying home. He'll run himself ragged if he comes. He's too stupid to realize it's hot until after his tongue is the size of Texas. No snakes seen out there (yet). I don't recall the shade, I guess i just never paid attention, but I do remember bushes and desert scrub.
