While browsing the net, i came across a tut for a "prong style" wrap. give credit were credit is due www.mybeads.com.au/wirewrappedp1.htmlPretty simple, I used it on the blue lace below (purchased cab,not done by me), but left the two bail wires, and added to the front. That got me to thinking of a way to do a "one wire" prong wrap. I doubt I'm the first to attempt this style, and i've not seen it done before, but this is what i came up w/. I traced the stone, tumble polished, not a perfect shape, but oh well.... mesured out the center, and drew a cross, w/ the prongs being 3/16th of an inch longer than the stone is "tall" and leaving the top 1 1/2" above the top of the stone for the bail. i then wrapped the back w/ half round, created the bail, and set the prongs, it's not perfect, but not bad for a trial run. All made with one peice of 22g square, and 22g half round. Let me know if there is an interest in a pic tute (unless someone knows of one already), i'll do that up no sweat. The bail holds the top of the stone in place. Please let me know what you think, and sorry about the long winded post....... ;D P.S. anyone know what the square stone that i did is? Alex

I tried that style, too but despite the apparences it seemed pretty difficult to me to set equal prongs an equally distanced prongs. They looked like your wrap from the left side. The idea with the spirals seems interesting, but I'd do it only on uniform colored stones, eitherway a lot of the pattern would be hidden. That blue lace looks very good.

I agree I really like that blue lace. The other one is nice as well, but I'd worry about stability on the top. Right now it looks like it could slide out of the holder.

I think that lace is one of the better prong styles I have seen. It goes beyond traditional prong style. The other more traditional one I like not so much. I don't like prong style because they never look right. Never the same size or same placement. I have seen (and even once comissioned) attempts to obtain a creative and asthetic asymetry, but I have never seen a traditional prong wire-wrap I find pleasing.

I like the lace as well, but wonder at how stable it is in holding the stone without epoxy - I like the spirals, first time I've seen it!

I really, really like the blue lace - I know it's really hard to get prongs right but has anyone tried to make them uneven on purpose? How would it look?
I like the circles more than the prongs but they're nice too - I think your blue lace is wrapped better than the one in the tutorial
