well i aint sure about the spear head...but it sure looks worked. 1 of the guys at work told me he found some of the rock i have on my desk and he whooped out a few pieces....and yep it was savannah river agate/chert...pretty stuff also....when i asked him where.... he said on his uncles property....that property is 50 miles inland from the river....15 minutes from my house...anyway.... i go to his house...he rides his horse and i take the 4 wheeler to a place i could never get back to...yet ;D....15 minutes after we get to the place he said he found the rock....he reaches down and picks this up....yep...its obsidian. clickable. to bad the tip is possibly missing.....a few minutes later...i find this. could that possibly be a spear head...it looks worked to me...maybe?....i have never found a piece of obsidian around here before...maybe it was traded for....and someone had to haul the river agate from the river...i think its cool anyway...yep...dirty hands...i actually worked last week ;D...kev.

Those are two really nice finds. I was thinking that maybe if it is not a spearhead, could it be a scraper that would have been used on skins. The reason I say this is because 2 of the indentations on the rock look as if a thumb would fit comfortably in it. I am not even a novice at identifying but thought I would throw my 2 cents in.

I think the second one looks like a scraper also, or maybe an unfinished point. The obsidian one is really nice, to bad about the tip.

It stands to reason if you find an area where arrowheads were made you are likely to find the discards not perfect points. Where would obsidian come from in that part of the country? Very interesting Kev.

Obsidian was traded at least as far east as Ohio. And you guys/gals thought hauling a 5 gallon bucket of rock out of a hole or creek was work...

john it is very interesting...i have never seen a piece of obsidian around here either....but i have since been told it has been found before around here.
a friend that has been gathering up pieces such as this for probably 30 years took a look at these the other night....here is his thoughts ;D
the arrowhead isnt an arrowhead at all....its is most likely the end of a type of knife because it is 1 1/4 long with the tip missing...and over 3/4 inches wide....just to big to be an arrowhead....and it is not symetrical at all....he said the deer would have had to run in a circle for anyone to be able to hit it with that piece on the end of an arrow...hahahahaha.
and agrees with everyone else about the 2nd one.. 100 percent it is a scrapper...probably for scraping reeds and such...but anyway...we gonna get back there as soon as possible and hopefully find some other stuff...kev.
