I went to a rock & mineral show back in May, and I was THRILLED to find one vendor who was selling nice slabs. These are some of the nicest ones I got (if anyone has ID's I'd love it!): Spiderweb Obsidian: Unknown 1: Unknown agatized material: I'm guessing this is a porcelain jasper? And my big expense of the day...this guy (Dino Bone). It's big and totally solid (look at that RED!): Closeup! Actually, I paid $45 for it, which I didn't think was too outrageous for the size and quality. I said I was going to cab it, but I'm not sure I have the heart to!

Titania, Nice slabs! I think your last one is Dino Bone. The close-up sure looks like cell structure to me. You gotta make at least one cab from that Dino Bone. Steve

Yeah, I knew the last one was dino bone...forgot to add that to the title on the pic. I'll fix that. I know I've got to do a cab someday, but I can admire it a while longer, right? ;D

Thanks, guys for the ID on that imperial jasper! I did some research, now that I know what it is, and it looks like a material that is really variable. How do guys always ID? Is it the pink that gives it away in this case?

I really like that spiderweb obsidian! Is it really as neon green as it looks on my monitor (the lines, that is)? It's actually the lines and the way the color varies in the slab - the light with dark versions of the same color markings that helped me decide it was Imperial (they just told you first ). It comes in at least pink and green, so the color is only a partial indicator.

Thanks for the help on ID'ing the Imperial. That definitely helps. I'm pretty sure I can ID "in the wild" with all that knowledge.

I think the first unknown may be cinnabar as it looks a lot like the slab in spirit stone's thread that is two down from yours.
These are really nice slabs!

You hit the nail right on the head with all stose slabs. Awesome sellection!
Adrian
PS. I think I would keep the bone uncut, too. Try to polish the whole slab, it would do a great display piece. Especially 'cause it seems that the contour of the slab is the very contour of the section of the bone, ain't it?

Your third pic of the Agatized material looks like Petrified Reed to me. Not positive but it looks like a slab that was cut across the grain to get the eyes.

I don't think that is cinnabar, the photo is kinda dark but those aren't cinnabar crystals, that slab looks like some sort of rhyolite to me. Maybe a denditric rhyolite or jasper of some sort. Beautiful slabs though. I'm with Rhonda, love the obsidian.

A jasper would make sense. It feels like a jasper. It's not yellow at all, in person...just shades of grey and pink with that bit of brown-ish rind at the edge.
